Don’t Drink the Fluoride: Get the F Out!

Fluoride is Not Something You Should Be Drinking; The Other Side of Water Fluoridation

by Augie

As an environmental professional in industrial controls, one of my assignments in 1976 was to prepare an engineering assessment and an air pollutant control techniques document for the phosphate fertilizer industry under an EPA contract. Little attention was paid to the high fluoride content in the stack-gas scrubber waste water, the same gasses that killed cattle in a wide area around the plants in Florida. I later learned these concentrated and toxic fluoride wastes were to be sold to municipalities to discharged directly into public water supplies while the public was being sold the idea of their supposed health and dental benefit package. I have had to live with that for 35 years, so tonight I come out of the closet and introduce you to my new professional affiliation with the Fluoride Action Network (FAN). I joined to help FAN the flames of freedom from fluoridation, as it has been banned in nearly all of Europe for many years.

In December, with compliments of the publisher Chelsea Green, I received a copy of a new book which is the probably the most comprehensive treatment of this fascinating topic. It is written Paul Connett, PhD, James Beck MD, PhD, and H.S. Micklem DPhil.and it is called The Case Against Fluoride–How Hazardous Waste Ended Up in Our Drinking Water and the Bad Science and Powerful Politics That Keep It There. (More about the book follows the video.)

FAN’s video is a 28-minute scientific, medical, dental and environmental professional perspective of the problem of artificial fluoridation of our drinking water supplies. It is clear that fluoridation is not necessary, it is not effective, and it is not safe for any purpose.

If you watch but 5-minutes you will then want to watch the rest, now or later. It is that engaging and may be quite startling to you in all respects. You may also purchase the DVD at FAN for your local efforts to educate citizens that they are being forced-medicated without their informed consent of the potential toxicity of targeted organs,  including the brain. Especially at risk are low-income families, infants and the elderly, as well as those who suffer with some of the auto-immune disorders.

You can read more about the Case Against Fluoride at Amazon or at FAN’s site. Some comments:

Here are some comments on the book:

On the eve of the new millennium, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), listed water fluoridation as one of the twentieth-centurys 10 greatest public-health achievements. Yet according to the authors of this painstakingly researched expose of fluoridation’s overall ineffectiveness and toxicity, endorsements such as these from the CDC and other health organizations are motivated more by face-saving politics than credible research. Fluoridation advocates who have previously branded detractors as conspiracy theorists and shills for junk science will be hard pressed to debunk the hundreds of peer-reviewed studies and sound scientific reasoning presented here. In demonstrating fluoridation’s ineffectiveness, the authors cite exhaustive evidence proving fluorides only benefits are topical, as in toothbrushing, as opposed to swallowing. But the case against fluorides alleged safety, even in small doses, is more alarming, with multiple studies showing fluorides probable complicity in lowered intelligence scores, thyroid dysfunction, hip fractures, and the ominously rising incidence of osteosarcoma in boys. The authors academic, hyperbole-free writing style serves them well in marshaling a series of facts that, all by themselves, expose fluoridation as a false panacea. It remains to be seen, however, whether the public-health community will give this landmark work due credit or continue to rubber stamp an outdated policy that, like bloodletting and trepanation, properly belongs on the scrap heap of sham medical interventions.

” Alfred North Whitehead said the scientific method means leav-
ing ‘options open for revision.’ An ancient Roman adage says that
‘whatever touches all must be approved by all.’ These character-
izations of science and democracy are the reasons for reading this
book. Especially if you and your family are drinking administra-
tively mandated fluoridated water.”
-Ralph Nader

” For anyone who has ever wondered why cities add fluoride to
water-and questioned whether they should. Written with clear
and easy-to-read prose, and supporting citations, The Case Against
Fluoride carefully lays out the arguments against fluoridation and
reasons why it should be discontinued. The authors examine the
evidence on fluoridation and conclude convincingly that it should
now be considered ‘harmful and ineffective.'”
-Dr. Hardy Limeback, Professor and Head of
Preventive Dentistry, University of Toronto

” Sweden rejected fluoridation in the 1970s, and in this excellent
book these three scientists have confirmed the wisdom of that
decision. Our children have not suffered greater tooth decay, as
World Health Organization figures attest, and in turn our citizens
have not borne the other hazards fluoride may cause. In any case,
since fluoride is readily available in toothpaste, you don’t have to
force it on people.”
-Arvid Carlsson, Nobel Laureate in Medicine
or Physiology (2000) and Emeritus Professor
of
Pharmacology, University of Gothenburg

” This book clearly shows that water fluoridation is poor public
policy and must end. As a concerned citizen, I applaud the authors
for bringing this issue to the world’s attention.”
-Ed Asner

Does fluoride really fight cavities by ‘the skin of the teeth’?

In a study that the authors describe as lending credence to the idiom, “by the skin of your teeth,” scientists are reporting that the protective shield fluoride forms on teeth is up to 100 times thinner than previously believed. It raises questions about how this renowned cavity-fighter really works and could lead to better ways of protecting teeth from decay, the scientists suggest. Their study appears in ACS’s journal Langmuir.

Frank Müller and colleagues point out that tooth decay is a major public health problem worldwide. In the United States alone, consumers spend more than $50 billion each year on the treatment of cavities. The fluoride in some toothpaste, mouthwash and municipal drinking water is one of the most effective ways to prevent decay. Scientists long have known that fluoride makes enamel — the hard white substance covering the surface of teeth — more resistant to decay. Some thought that fluoride simply changed the main mineral in enamel, hydroxyapatite, into a more-decay resistant material called fluorapatite.

The new research found that the fluorapatite layer formed in this way is only 6 nanometers thick. It would take almost 10,000 such layers to span the width of a human hair. That’s at least 10 times thinner than previous studies indicated. The scientists question whether a layer so thin, which is quickly worn away by ordinary chewing, really can shield teeth from decay.

The issue is not if fluoride is ineffective for teeth health.
Submitted by Henry on Sat, 03/05/2011 – 01:16.

There are arguments on both sides of the coin as to the effectiveness of fluoride in preventing dental caries. I believe the evidence is that it is ineffective, but to me that is not the real issue.

First of all, if they add fluoride to water as a medical treatment, we are all being treated for disease by politicians, not medical professionals, and politicians are mostly dopes. And if a licensed medical professional were to force a medical treatment on an adult without consent, he would be acting unethically and probably would lose his license. So there is the issue of being forced to take a medical treatment by unlicensed medical illiterates.

But the real danger has to do with the halogen group of elements, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine. We need iodine and chlorine to maintain health; there is no RDA for bromine or fluorine. Iodine is a major component of hormones that we produce in our thyroid glands. These hormones have a lot to do with our metabolism, hence with apoptosis (programmed cell death and replacement). Plus every cell in our bodies need iodine to function properly.

The problem comes because iodine has the weakest electronegativity of the halogens. This means that if we consume bromine or fluorine, they compete with iodine to attach to receptor sites in cells that are designed to accept iodine, and they win that competition. As far back as 1860 it was known that fluorine drove iodine out of our bodies and slowed down the function of the thyroid gland.

Evidence is growing that lack of iodine is responsible for a host of cancers, particularly in women (thyroid, breast, uterine, ovarian) and precancerous conditions like fibroids and cysts in those organs. Insufficient iodine is responsible for the current epidemic of atrial fibrillation. It is indirectly responsible for type II diabetes. The list of diseases from lack of iodine is long. The widespread insufficiency of iodine levels in our population is directly related to fluorine and bromine driving iodine out of our bodies, coupled with insufficient iodine in our food supply to begin with.

And finally, fluorine replaces calcium in our teeth and bones. Just a slight bit too much and the results can be seen as dental fluorosis, the ugly deformity of enamel that I have seen in young people. But at levels insufficient to produce deformation of tooth enamel, fluorine is still doing its work. That work is displacing the normal size calcium compounds in our bones and teeth with smaller molecules that just don’t fit. What most doctors diagnose as osteoarthritis is really skeletal fluorosis, a very ugly disease that causes all sorts of skeletal deformities and malfunctions.

So I can only say that the people responsible for dumping dangerous fluoride in our water supply are nothing but criminals, and I believe they should be arrested and charged with the appropriate crimes because they are causing deaths and torturous diseases.

  4. I agree with Augie’s conclusion that those who legislate this useless and dangerous substance into our water supplies, while being aware of its documented negative impact to human health, should be arrested, tried, and convicted for their crimes. Sadly, this will never happen. Can fluoridation ever be stopped worldwide? This is difficult to say, but ultimately I believe that it will be curtailed just as another great medical fraud was terminated several centuries ago. I’m referring to bloodletting.

  5. And sad to say, the real secret to healthy teeth is high quality nutrition. Dr. Weston A. Price demonstrated that years ago with his study of tribes of people who had almost perfect teeth eating their highly nutritious local whole foods. With processed foods came cavities and crooked teeth. Our modern Western diet of processed foods is sadly lacking – and starting to spread around the world.
